The Asteroid # 4 appeared in the spectrum of psychadelic shoegaze brit pop a rough decade or so ago, literally making their debut into the cataclysmic a special one, appearing on a Spacemen 3 tribute album. Quickly thereafter they released their debut album properly entitled '...introducing' and gained a startlingly large fan base in a short amount of time using their drug induced psyched out debut.
A time after, being phased in and out as being mainstays in participating being lost and unforgotten they released their album 'An Amazing Dream' and sure enough reminded the entire scene why they appeared on the compilation that brought them to the big time rocking down the house with their neo psychadelia sound. Teaming up with The Committee to Keep Music Evil (a label run by no other than the sound devils, Anton Newman and Rob Campanella) and releasing their Fifth and most complete, fulfilling and vital album, "These Flowers Of Ours A Treasury of Witchcraft and Devilry," they once again prove that this band will go nowhere into obscurity soon. This is their most mature, tightest and complete album to date complete with lush sounds you will want to make an attempt to experiment with.
This band does not have any hard time making really beautiful rhythmical pop songs that are then distorted by even more beautiful sounding fuzz, static and noise creating awesomely beautiful creations that are not a dime a dozen. This album may as well lead the next wave of bands into the fray for something to be hopeful for. The track "She's All I Need" does a good job at proving this band can do the old and make it new, quickly reminding us about The Verve and just as quickly making them forgettable. Each song has its own flavor of slight drone (War being the most droned out of them all) and delicious reverb sound that makes bands such as these completely enjoyable. "Flowers Of Ours" has been called 'The Dronepop Song' of our lifetimes, I agree completely.
This is no longer a backyard 'shoegaze' band, The Asteroid # 4 has grown up and found itself after years of floating between sounds. They've been where they needed to be, amidst ear throbbing chaos that easily may bring any storm to a very quick halt. Put this one on when you're going out for a long drive at midnight when you are a tad big sleepy, causing you to pass out on the wheel.
