Alright, you don't have you like this, but I don't care, I love this. I won't even compare it to the Blood Brothers, or Neon Blonde, or Past Lives or whoever. For some reason, I have the unauthorized capability to not "compare new bands to older bands in ways that really make them seem like they shouldn't be appreciated and listened too for their own authenticity and experimentation", you have to remove your ideas about the past bands these two have offered in order to truly appreciate Hologram Jams. This is hardly the Jaguar Love of the last album, the lyrics have moved to being a little more happier, poppier, catchier and intensely repetitive. This is all good though, they soon become nice super fuzzy (at times) dance jams, just like what the title of the album implies.
There are no screams in here, no frenetically scratchy guitars, and nothing this duo has done in the past. At first I was really skeptical but the first video they released I Started A Fire has really caught on to me, it slowly but surely created a delicious build up that has finally exploded. The album is a step in every direction, from the 80's to Missy Elliot to sassy futuristic lyrics about teenage delusion.
