Big Waves of Pretty - Jessica Shepard

Not sure what kind of music this is. The guitar sound (not the chord structure, or whatever the fuck that is called) kind of reminds me of 90's indie rock type of stuff - Polvo maybe, definitely stuff that Rob Crow was a part of (Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, etc) and at times maybe even HOOD. I think this band does a good job of kind of having some sort of post hardcore feel and sense of urgency all the while not really delving deep into the hardcore part of it, but experimenting with jazzy textures or whatever. Sometimes it gets really surf rocky too, not necessarily like beach boys type of stuff but everything is so distorted that it is maybe what they are playing and it only sounds like it could be. Just a lot of cool shit going on. Their about section on their website states that "Although it seems we excel most producing sounds at higher volumes, our goal is to be sonically appealing in any environment, at any rate of intensity," and I feel that they do succeed. I think they have written material that can reach several different audience members at once. Whether they are doing a noisier Simple Machines type of thing or doing an early to mid 90's rendition of post-rock they do it with ultra clear DIY sensibilities that I feel many will at the very least appreciate and therefore be engaged by the band. I don't know what I'm saying. There are tour dates on their website and I suggest you check 'em out as they are basically hitting all sorts of places in the USA, in fact one could call it a nation wide tour.
