There's this whole thing about the internet and I assume individuals in general, they like to tag things and keep some sort of order. But usually, when things are disorganized (like thought), then a bunch of these tags and things used to keep order fall apart or cross paths and explode. That is exactly what has happened with bands like Solid State; I cannot tell you whether they are Minimal Wave, New Wave, Minimal Synth, Synth Wave or anything else; but what I can tell you is that they helped pave the way for bands like Ganglians and Neon Indian (total rip off) to help get the recognition that they are getting today, which took around 29 years. This is so enchanting, very playful and direct. You will love these songs, they are danceable and trance fueled, passionate lyrics with angst filled desires and prose that cannot be touched (give a listen to A Darkness In My Soul). Divine.
