Cloud Nothings first release on Bridgetown was ultimate pop gold. The catchy catch it while you can never ranged from one song to another, it was all very much good. One of the best releases of 2010, one of the best releases from a good friend of mine. On this release they bring a new side of them; similar but very different. They play their instruments the same but everything sounds louder, more blurry, less wide eyed and less innocent. They jump the board with an instrumental track that makes a statement 'our last release Turning On was just that, our last release, this is a new release, this is our split'. Just let your mouth ooh and ahh.
Campfires manages to hit the bar Cloud Nothings set up, and it was a very high bar. Much of the same in fuzzed out, dismal atonal sound with that pop sensibility is displayed on Campfires side; although theirs happens to retain a bit more lightness. If the fuzz was pulled back, I believe this would happen to sit right along with the 1990's almost psychedelic indie rock.
