Hanoi Janes - Year Of Panic

The name is, oh you know. The music is really, something something.

The music isn't as dark or morbid as the namesake, but it's just as silly. I don't think that there is a thing Hanoi Janes does different from other great bands, but with that notion you already know what you are getting into. It's very poppy, half way sarcastically happy. I get moments that remind me of Pavement's really fuzzy poppier songs and some of it is reminiscent of Beck, but then other times I feel like I'm listening to an Brian Jones play the guitar; but all of it done in that modern garage sound. Sonically, I think they are VERY similar to Cloud Nothings (who you should check out on Bridgetown Records). It's a pretty long album (14 songs) and sometimes it sounds like some of the songs were done a while after the others, but it sorta adds variety and depth. I think the album is a one man jam and other members have been added on since. Very light, pleasing and full of spring/summer.
