People have their 80's band; some people dig SWANS others dig My Bloody Valentine or The Cure. Everyone just has one and I don't know why. This is mine, they beat MBV because of the, I don't know, the Gothic sensibilities and orchestrated noises combined really make me hit the floor. Although It is not my favorite album (it is Heaven And Las Vegas) of theirs and it doesn't have my favorite song on it (that Goes to Tishbite off of Milk and Kisses), it is probably the best post punk album ever made. I don't know why either. The harsh drum machine sounds or the clinical guitar tones accompanied by some of the softest yet evil basslines ever. The album cover, the super mysterious dedication in the notes (Dear Carol, We shall both die in your rosary : Elizabeth) and the, at times, overwhelming sense of tragedy have inspired too many bands to even note. Some bands get with the times and others define them.
