House Paint - TOTAL REALITY INTERNATIONAL

My introduction to House Paint came from the split with Katrina Stonehart (which you should obviously also check out) that was probably my first tape introduction to that whole Chicago feel. I believe that this sounds as though it was made by a completely different band. The split was a little less thorough and sounded like House Paint was trying to find a direction. Maybe it can be seen as a teaser or something for what was to come, or maybe it really is a few songs kind of woven into one another. Total Reality International sounds like House Paint locked itself up in a cage with electronic equipment and darkened some of the best electronic sounds from the past 8 years or so. I'm not sure if this was the intention but it hits some great Italians Do it Better styled electronic synth grooves and also touches upon some Thieves Like Us. Overall the album seems like a downer, sorta like an after effect of being too happy while on drugs. Maybe that's what the album is about. Regardless it's fucking great. It's pretty darkened compared to the split. It's not really long enough. I haven't been able to pick this one up yet, but hopefully before it sells out. Disco?
