Two days ago I sat at a table with a liar and a thief who offered me a paper with a price on my child's head. These people wanted to sabotage my fatherhood, and I crumpled their paper and told them that I don't work with thieves and liars. I said I would not bargain with my daughter's life. And the only reason I am putting it on here is bc yesterday the magistrate told them they were ridiculous and vindictive, and never had a case to begin with: dismissed. Love conquers everything, don't be afraid of the evils around you. Fuck 'em where they stand on sight. They will tempt you with all they have, but remember nobody can fuck with you if you acknowledge the fact that you are a god in your own right and have equal control in any situation you may find yourself in. I got everything I wanted by believing in myself and not letting my myriad fears crush me into something lesser. I'm off the soapbox now, just wanted to get that out there.
This is the newest official solo Panda Bear release. This stuff puts me where I want to be mentally. It is like easy listening music that is kinda difficult to process as its coming in. The inward/reverse/release swelling sound is always a big factor in this guy's work, always to great nostalgic and dizzying effect. You get track 2 "Tomboy" b/w track 6 "Slow Motion" from the upcoming full length in September
here. No massive surprises otherwise, it furthers the compositions into a cool blend of Fall Be Kind material and classic Person Pitch grooves.
He said he wants this album to be more guitar driven in terms of rhythm, and I like how he has applied that here. It's not like he wants it to be guitar heavy in terms of shredding, but more like drenching the track with saturated flanged out guitar licks. His 'drums' never cease to entertain me, so simple but always fun to come back and focus on in the mix. The vocals and lyrics are nebulous and inquisitive as ever, he is always a one-man-Beach-Boys-in-harmony machine.
There are 8 more tracks slated for the album, which still has no official street date.
