Various Artists - Obsession

This compilation is very iconoclastic for me; I figured that Psychadlic music was just a major thing in Western Civilization and only Western Civilization (and when I say Western Civilization I mean the U.S.A. only). This is a compilation of fourteen different and very obscure artists ranging from very timid and mysterious parts of the world like Brazil and Turkey. I'll never understand any of the lyrics (except for the Jean Paul track), but Mike Davis (the man who put together the compilation and owner of Academy Records in NY) felt the need to put these songs in together in pure mix tape fashion. I really appreciate the depth of each track, no quality seems to be lost. The recordings are very garage like. My favorite track is the second by the mysterious Quarteto Nova Era (who only managed to produce a 4 song EP that is intensely hard to find) because of the vocal patterns, they are completely lush. Another really good ear catching song is the Erkin Koray song, which was probably considered to be breakneck speed back in the day, but with a lot of calm moments as well; a real radio hit. All in all even though psych music is not my favorite kind of music I do enjoy and appreciate this compilation, that was the result of hard record collecting between 1967 to 1973.
