Formed in the early 90's and lasted up until 1996 or so. Chimera were female fronted, and most sources will tell you that they were a mix of the Cocteau Twins and The Cranberries. Although that seems to be ultimately true, this band lacks the complete minimal (or sometimes fully developed) wall of sound that Robin Guthrie made with the Cocteau Twins, perhaps the comparison to the Cranberries is more accurate, but I honestly wouldn't know (note to self: check out the Cranberries catalog). The songs are ethereal but aren't drenched in haze or in any way sleepy, they are in a way a hard rock/pop band with shoegazing tendencies. Maybe that was why their sound had almost broke them through to fame in the US. A tragedy that such a harmonious band will never get the recognition they ought to have gained. I'm not going to lie, I never heard of this band during the 90's, but between 1990-2000 I was between the ages of 2 - 12 (or something like that, my past is mysterious), so with that being said I can only assume that their NME single that made them popular over the pond was the very catchy Cyan Daze.
